To buy glasses online, you need a copy of your prescription. You will need to give your prescription details to order your glasses. For the majority of prescriptions, especially printed ones, this is a simple matter of copying the numbers into an online order form. When you’re given your prescription, we recommend asking for your pupillary distance – another measurement needed to custom make your glasses. For a pair of glasses to perform as well as they can for you, the lenses need to be made to match the distance between your eyes, so that the centre of each lens aligns with the centre of your pupils. To achieve this, we need your pupillary distance measurement, also called PD measurement. Many opticians will measure your PD on request, just after your eye test. If they refuse, perhaps the threat of you having your next eye test elsewhere may convince them. Go to your local opticians and get an eye test. At the end of it, the optician must - by law - provide you with a copy of your prescription, and shouldn't insist or imply that you need to buy your glasses from that store. |
